September 12, 2019

L-R: Murray McDermott (Canada), Andrzej Gieniusz (Rome), Evandro Miranda Rosa (Rome), Gene Szarek (USA), Paul Voisin (Rome), Jacek Praski (Rome), Antoni Motyka (Brazil), Krzysztof Swol (Poland)

Our Extended General Council Meetings took place from Sept. 2 to Sept. 7, 2019, in Chicago this year and were hosted by our American C.R. Province. Participants were our four men from our General Curia in Rome, the Provincial Superiors from Poland, U.S.A., Canada and the Superior of our Brazilian Region. The next U.S.A. Provincial who will take office on Jan. 1, 2020, also joined us. The meetings for all of us who attended were a blessing and privilege. At the beginning of our meetings our Superior General, V. Rev. Paul Voisin C.R. reminded us that in Article 89 of our constitutions it tells us of the role of the E.G.C. “The purpose of the Extended General Council is to assist the Superior General in his concern for the unity and development of the entire Congregation.

All members submitted written reports received by all before the meetings began.  During the E.G.C., verbal reports were shared by each member concerning their individual jurisdictions and responsibilities. Discussions followed with questions and answers.

We received wonderful hospitality from St. Joseph’s The Worker Religious House in Chicago.  Additional hospitality was provided by two of the Chicago Pastors who welcomed us for a supper meal at their parishes and by American Provincial Fr. Gene Szarek C.R. who took us to an upscale Italian Restaurant.  We prayed the divine office daily, and took turns celebrating the Eucharist and preaching. For the week we carried in our hearts the joys, hopes, dreams and wounds of our community and communities.   Perhaps, our South American Region Superior described our time together best when he said, “NOW I CAN GO HOME KNOWING THAT I AM NOT ALONE.”

In the address of Pope Francis to the Extended General Council Chapter of 2017, he called and commissioned us to be prophets of joy and Easter hope with these inspiring words directed to us personally: “ Risen in order to enable others to rise; set free to bring new life to birth in everyone who crosses our path- this is your vocation and Mission as Brothers of the Resurrection. “
