It was easy for the disciples to respond to Jesus’ inquiry, “Who do people say I am?” because it only meant passing on the words of others.  However, when He asked, “Who do YOU say I am?” it was quite different, because it demanded a declaration of faith.  Peter, impetuous Peter, was the first to speak, and to declare that Jesus is “the Son of the living God”.  Jesus asks us the same question, but wants us to go beyond a verbal declaration of faith in Him, to live a life that reflects that He is “the Son of the living God”.  If we truly believe that Jesus is who we say He is, our daily lives should bear witness to His truth, and bring His love to others.  Let us not act impetuously, but with calm and sincere thought to declare who Jesus is for us.
