Sunday Reflections

I can assume that we have all found ourselves on winding and twisting roads that complicated our journey and frustrated us.  We would have preferred a straight road.  That is the hope and will of Jesus for each of us, too, during this Advent season – that we make our “path” straight.  John the Baptist came preaching conversion, and a return to faithfulness to God in the covenant.  As people of the new covenant, this season calls us also to a change, as we prepare ourselves spiritually for the celebration of the birth of the Lord Jesus.  Just as much attention has already been given in our homes to a tree, decorations, sending of greetings, purchasing of gifts – there is also a need to prepare ourselves spiritually to recognize the true ‘reason for the season’.  Advent is a time of watching and waiting, but not passively or inactively.  Rather it should be a time of renewed prayer and devotion, and seeking to do the will of God so that Christmas morning we are all sincerely welcoming the Lord Jesus into our lives – and into our world – in a new and deeper way.
