Visit of Fr. Raphael Ma, CR – Part 4

Fr. Raphael shifted from the novitiate in Buhemba to the formation house in Morogoro. Br. Mosses met him at the airport, and they took the high-speed train to Morogoro from Dar es Salaam.

We welcomed Fr. Raphael with joyous singing and cake and ice cream…a great combination to make anyone feel “at home.”

Cutting the cake is a big thing but Fr. Raphael was more than up to the task!

Livinus Galeba and Joseph Amani did the honors of formally welcoming Fr. Raphael to our formation house. Then, Joseph Chacha and Br. Mosses joined Fr. Raphael in my room after dinner.

Fr. Raphael got to experience a bunch of celebrations!

I took Fr. Raphael with me to purchase the fish, chicken, beef, and store groceries that we will need for the week. We buy 44 chickens each week from a former seminarian, Emmanuel Matiku. Fr. Raphael noticed that they are not wrapped in cellophane!

Fr. Raphael was able to join us for prayer and Eucharist each day. He also gave a day of recollection to our 30 seminarians and aspirants.

One of the most amazing things that I have seen and heard in Tanzania is that Fr. Raphael gave the talks during the day of recollection in Swahili! I told him that he was making me look bad, but in typical Fr. Raphael fashion he assured me that I pronounced a few words correctly! Ha! Ha!

4th Sunday of Easter – April 26, 2026

This day, as we pray for those who have already answered the call to be shepherds in the church, let us pray also that we may each be open to the vocation God has planned for us…

World Day of Prayer for Vocations – Good Shepherd Sunday

Along with commemorating Christ’s role as our shepherd, we celebrate and pray for shepherds in the Church. Accordingly, the Church joins together this Sunday to pray in a special way for priests and vocations to the priesthood.
