Would you leave everything and follow Him? 

This week’s gospel reading, taken from Matthew, recalls Jesus’s recruitment of His apostles.  Insert yourself into this story.  One day you are approached by a stranger, who says simply, “come follow me…”  How would you react?  Would you simply put on your winter outdoor clothes and leave your cozy, warm, surroundings; walk out and follow this stranger?  Probably not.  More likely you might mutter to yourself or say to anyone within earshot, “What a foolish request”.

But, while a literal perspective to this scenario is straight-forward, what about figuratively.  How else can you embrace this request?  How are the “isms” – including materialism, individualism or relativism affecting your following of Christ?  What can you do more of, or better, to follow Him?  This is a challenge you can embrace.  What specific steps can you take, to live out this calling?   

In the first reading from Isaiah, you are reminded, “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light”, a light which we believe results from figuratively following Christ. 

And Paul also in his 1^st Letter to the Corinthians reminds us Christ saved us through his death on the cross and like Paul you, too, should proclaim the Gospel in response to following Him.

Today, make a conscious commitment to how you will follow Him.
