+Fr. Chris Buda, CR

The Congregation of the Resurrection announces the death of Father Christopher Buda, CR of Resurrection Manor, Waterloo, Ontario on April 22, 2026.  He was in his 77th year, in his 59th year of religious life and 51st year of ordained priesthood.

Fr. Chris is predeceased by his father Piotr Buda and mother Zofia (nee Kawalec) and a brother Gustaw. He is survived and lovingly remembered by his brother Marek, sister Elzbieta Jegorow and sister-in-law Theresa, his nieces, grandnieces and nephews and great-grandnieces and nephews, and many friends. 

Fr. Chris professed his religious vows in the Congregation on August 26, 1967 in Radziwillow Maz, Poland and was ordained to the ministerial priesthood on May 31, 1975 in Krakow, Poland.

He ministered in a number of parishes in Poland from 1975 to 1983.  In 1983, Fr. Chris came to Canada and served at St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish in Hamilton for 5 years. Fr. Chris served as Associate Pastor and then Pastor of Sacred Heart Parish, Associate Pastor of St. Joseph’s Parish, Brantford, Associate Pastor and then Pastor of St. Mary’s Parish, Kitchener, Pastor of St. Louis Parish, Waterloo and as Associate Pastor of St. Joseph Parish, Hamilton.

In 1991, Fr. Chris transferred from the Polish Province to the Canadian Province of the Congregation of the Resurrection.  He served one term as provincial councillor and was elected to our General Curia in Rome as Econom General for a six-year term. Fr. Chris was a member of a number of committees within the Congregation and House Superior for St. Louis Religious House.

A man of deep faith, hope and love Fr. Chris’s life of faithful service touched the lives of his brother religious, parishioners, and family during his life of dedicated ministry.  

We wish to express our gratitude to the medical staff at WRHN at Midtown Hospital for the compassionate care they provided to Fr. Chris over the past several years.

At his request, a private Mass of the Resurrection has taken place for Fr. Chris, with internment at Mount Hope Cemetery, Kitchener. We are grateful for all the prayers offered by those who knew Fr. Chris.
