The Labourers Are Few

A Resurrectionist Vocation Minute for June 14, 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time

“The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few.” Jesus speaks these words after seeing the crowds who were “harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” Priestly and religious vocations begin when a person allows his or her heart to be moved by the spiritual needs of others and asks, “Lord, how do you want me to serve?” Jesus first tells us to pray: “Ask [therefore] the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest.” He then invites those who have received freely to give freely and make of their lives a gift to others. Listen attentively – perhaps in today’s Gospel you will hear your name among those whom Christ is calling to be His apostles.
