All Christian vocations, but especially a vocation to the Congregation of the Resurrection, consists of a handful of principles. Embracing conversion is key among them. We are called to die to ourselves in order to rise with Christ.
Our readings this 26th Sunday in Ordinary time remind us of the significance of this principle, highlighting why it is so meaningful. Jesus himself embraced a call to empty himself. He relinquished eternal glory to accept human mortality. In accepting even death, he made it possible for us to similarly die to our own self-activity, self-love, and self-involvement so that we might rise with him. He lived the way of conversion that we might do likewise.
