Fr. Evandro Miranda Rosa, C.R. conducted his 2026 canonical visitation of the Tanzanian Mission from Sunday, July 26 to Monday, August 17. It was a time to meet with each member of the mission, to visit houses of formation and apostolates, and to preside over various vows ceremonies that took place during this time period. The visitation began quickly. Fr. Jim Donohue, C.R., the local superior of the mission and the rector of the formation house in Morogoro, met Fr. Evandro at the airport in Dar es Salaam at 2:15 a.m. After a quick drive to a local hotel for a few hours of rest, Fr. Yohana Kachwele, C.R. arrived at the hotel to pick up Fr. Evandro and Fr. Jim so that they could participate in the morning Eucharist in our new parish, Mary, Mother of God in Nyantira (Dar es Salaam).
Fr. Jim presided and preached at the Eucharist. Fr. Evandro and Fr. Jim distributed communion during the Eucharist.
After the morning Eucharist, Fr. Evandro and Fr. Jim participated in the blessing of the new primary school that the parish had just begun building. At present, the school only cares for pre-kindergarten children, but soon it will add kindergarten and three primary grades. Fr. Yohana, with his parish council, has many good plans, including the intent to purchase more land in order to build a church and to extend the primary school. There is no Catholic primary school in the immediate area, so this will be a great resource for parishioners.

Fr. Yohana has a very engaged parish council and many groups of parishioners to assist him in all aspects of parish life. Fr. Yohana began his ministry in this parish in February 2026 and is assisted by Emmanuel Ntula, C.R., a perpetually professed member who has finished his theology studies and is awaiting ordination to the deaconate.

Fr. Evandro was able to meet with Fr. Yohana, C.R. and Emmanuel Ntula, C.R. during his 3-day canonical visit in Nyantira. They shared their plans for the parish expansion in different areas of pastoral care, education, and infrastructure.

Fr. Evandro also had many opportunities to interact with the parish council and other parishioners at meetings and social gatherings. Everyone was very hospitable and Fr. Evandro was able to witness first-hand the newest addition to our mission apostolate.
