Our Call to Saintliness

A Resurrectionist Vocation Minute for November 1, Solemnity of All Saints

We celebrate our call to holiness, to saintliness, on this Solemnity of All Saints!
And indeed, the Lord seems to see us as such already. The vast multitude seen by John on the island of Patmos are the communion of saints – past, present, and future (Revelation 7). The epistle announces and reminds us of the Father’s heavenly love for us … we are children of God (1 John 3:1-3)! And strikingly, the Lord’s beatitudes celebrate how our blessedness shines forth not from our strengths, abilities, talents, or achievements but rather from our brokenness, frailty, and vulnerability. The poor inherit the kingdom; the mourning enjoy comfort.
Here the mystery of sanctity illuminates us. God calls us to various journeys: lay, religious, or clerical life in the Church. Yet, our vocation to holiness means following the Risen Lord on a journey not away from or around, but through our human weakness to the glory of the resurrection.
