Reflection by:
Father Paul Voisin
Sometimes people look back upon their lives and ask themselves, “What if …?” In that light some recognize wasted time and energy, wasted opportunities and graces, because their sights – their dreams and plans – were set on things which did not fulfil them. Jesus challenges us, in the parable in the gospel, to recognize what is truly important. It is not “bigger barns” or to “eat, drink, and have a good time”! The Book of Ecclesiastes also warns us of the ‘trap’ of vanity. St. Paul reminds us that our true life is in Christ, and our faith in Him refocuses our lives – our dreams and plans – to what builds up an eternal reward. This Sunday provides us with an opportunity to re-assess, re-evaluate, our direction in life – our dreams and plans – and to help us to identify what is really important in this life, and for the life to come.
