Angels in the making.
In the gospel reading this Sunday we find the Sadducees once again trying to ascribe honor for themselves by giving Jesus a scenario that he is unable to respond to. It is fascinating that Jesus continues to stretch their imagination with his response.
Essentially, he is inviting us all to think beyond the commitments we make in this life, such as marriage, and imagine ourselves as angels in the life to come. Perhaps an angel has slightly different needs, wants, and desires than we do now? Perhaps there are even more joy-filled ways we can receive and give love as angels?
I wonder if we see our vocations as vehicles through which God can transform us into angels? I wonder if we take time to try and see how we can be angels for each other when we respond to a call to serve with our enthusiastic “yes” ? Whether we are just beginning to discover our vocation, or we are well on our way to living it out, may God give us the awareness to see ourselves and others as “angels in the making” and help us to trust that there is nothing better than becoming an angel in heaven.
