Jesus’ baptism today … was not a conversion from sin… For Jesus it was a public mission statement – a commitment to love, to forgive, to be with his people, to call us to walk with him. Bishop Tutu of South Africa was asked what could he do for people in the midst of the violence that plagued his people? His answer was, “I tell them that God loves them.”- Love where the world says his people were unlovable. Is this not our call as well, to be instruments of God’s love?
The call of baptism is to respond to God’s love in us. Where have we felt that call?
