Bread of Life

A Resurrectionist Vocation Minute for June 7, Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ

Bread is something that most of us enjoy as part of a meal, or a meal itself. It nourishes and strengthens us for whatever lies ahead. It can also give a very satisfying feeling, enjoying a freshly baked loaf of bread! But what if someone offered us a piece of bread that, once consumed, might give us unending life?  That the piece of bread alone would have the power to strengthen us no matter what suffering we might endure, even to the point of carrying us over the threshold of death itself?  It is a remarkable mystery and a truth for those who believe in Jesus’s promise to be the Bread of Life for us always.
To be called to share this bread as a priest and/or Religious is a remarkable thing – and hopefully a consideration for many as they think about their vocation in life! May God help those called to share this bread with others to have the courage to say yes to their vocation.  And may we all become one with someone who is so blessed, broken, and shared so that all who believe may have eternal life!
