A Resurrectionist Vocation Minute for May 11, 4th Sunday of Easter
Did you hear a call?
This is one of the most common questions I hear people ask when they’re curious about the story of my vocation. There’s this narrative in most people’s minds that a vocation has its origin in some kind of experience of being “called” – and they want to hear the story.
And it’s true, every vocation does in some way have its root in the experience of being “called”. The word “vocation” itself in English comes from the Latin verb “vocare”, which means “to call”.
In today’s Gospel for the 4th Sunday of Easter – often called Good Shepherd Sunday – we hear Jesus say these words:
“My sheep hear my voice. I know them, and they follow me.”
How do you hear the voice of Jesus the Good Shepherd in your life? When have you felt really seen, heard, and known by God? These are the moments from which a vocation is born, an inner desire to follow Jesus our Good Shepherd.
“A very special manifestation of God’s love was made to our Founders and to all who have followed them in the Congregation of the Resurrection because we have received Christ’s invitation to leave all and follow Him.”
