We planned a community celebration for Easter Monday. It was really a great day! Each person could invite a few people to the celebration, so we had a real mix of people. We invited Maria and Pendo, our cooks, to bring their families to celebrate with us. Our Sunday cooks, with Josephina, prepared the food for our celebration.

Mattias is the son of one of our Sunday cooks…Josephina’s brother.

Louis and Livinus were in charge of music. They did a great job of keeping things bopping!

Emmanuel was a seminarian with us. He left and got married but now lives in the village next to ours. He has a shop where we buy our chickens and fish each week. He is a great friend and asked me on Sunday if we could start an Apostles of the Resurrection in Tanzania. What a great idea!!!!!

Rama, Saidi and Kulwa are young men who work at the market. Rama and Kulwa helped me a great deal when I first came to Tanzania. You might recognize Saidi from Fr. Toby’s video of “The Search for the Perfect Avocado.” Saidi had a “starring role” in the video. They are Muslims, so they had to avoid the pork.

Two of my favorite people: our cooks, Maria and Pendo. I try to give advice to the seminarians. One piece of advice that I swear by: “ALWAYS MAKE FRIENDS WITH THE COOKS!”

The food was great…something special for Easter: beef, chicken, and pork, with two kinds of rice. And watermelon that is SO, SO SWEET!

A great day for which we are grateful, especially Emmanuel Ntula and Goodluck, the youngest child of our cook, Pendo.
