Evening Prayer for Immaculate Conception

On December 8th the Resurrectionists and Apostles of the Resurrection gathered to celebrate Evening Prayer for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of Mary, at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Kitchener.

Thank you to the St. Francis Choir for leading the music for our prayer, it was a wonder-filled night and the music helped our prayers “rise like incense”!

Fr. Joseph de Viveiros, CR presided and led those gathered in a reflection on the Immaculate Conception. We remembered that although Mary was born entirely human, she was preserved from sin from her very conception for her entire life. This contradicts the saying “I’m only human” that we often use in reference to our own sins.  Mary shows us that to be truly human is to not sin; sinning is un-human.

This is not meant to dishearten us, to make us feel we can never live up to those standards.  The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception is meant to remind us that with God, everything is possible.  Mary showed us that humans can live without sin, through God’s grace.
