First Meeting of the Tanzanian Commission
- September 19 - 25, 2024
From September 19 to 25 the members of the first Tanzanian Commission met at Resurrection College. The Commission is tasked with overseeing the operations and finances of the Resurrectionist Mission in Tanzania. The group is comprised of members from General Curia, Canadian, American and Polish Provinces.
Thoughts from our Canadian Provincial Superior: Fr. Tim Uniac, CR:
It was a wonderful week of exploring and celebrating the many dynamics of our Mission in Tanzania. The Mission continues to grow at an amazing pace: the number of vocations are climbing dramatically; a new elementary school has been completed, and soon the new Resurrection High School will open (our CR educational apostolate is alive and well); our members are doing incredible ministry in our parishes that include many “outstations”; and our members in Tanzania are exercising sound financial stewardship of our patrimony (one of the tasks the Commission was to explore).
Then the “happy problem” in Tanzania was explored – we have more vocations than we can accommodate. This year 25 potential candidates were turned away – imagine that, candidates being turned away – because we lack the physical space for them. We can no longer respond to the question asked of us: “Do you have any vocations?” by saying no – we indeed have vocations (also growing in Brazil)! Land to construct a larger seminary has been purchased and the Commission expressed their belief that the Curia should approve construction to move forward. Let us pray for the continued success of our mission on Tanzania.
