Fixing Our Road: Part 1

To arrive at our formation house, we take either the “Tungi” road or the “Nani-Nani” road. These two roads pass through the two villages near where we live. However, in order to arrive at our formation house, we must take a smaller road—more like a lane. Two factors have contributed to the deterioration of the road: the rainy season that “reigns” havoc on the road and a truck that has been using the road to deliver materials for a construction project across from our property.

Since it is a private road—we call it the “Resurrection Road”—it is up to us to maintain it. It had become almost impassible over the past few weeks. Some of the potholes were so big that when driving on the lane, the bottom of our vehicles would scrape against the road. It was also very tough on the tires and the suspension of the vehicles. So, we decided to purchase some “filler” that is composed of rocks and sand in order to fill in the potholes and level the road.

It is hard to estimate how much “filler” would be needed. We began with three truck loads. The truck driver would leave each load in several places, so we had many huge piles of material to distribute over the road. We knew it would take a team effort to work on the road.
