Fr. Sam Restivo, CR Papal Honours

On Sunday, November 26, 2023 at the Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King in Hamilton, Bishop Douglas Crosby, OMI presided over a special Mass during which Papal Honours were bestowed on lay persons from the Hamilton Diocese, as well as one Brother, and our own Fr. Sam Restivo, CR.

Fr. Sam received the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice Cross. “The cross “for the Church and for the Pope” had its origin in 1888, as a token of the golden jubilee of Pope Leo XIII; he bestowed it on those who had assisted in the observance of his jubilee and on persons responsible for the success of the Vatican Exposition. This cross was made permanent in October 1898 in recognition of service to the Church and the papacy.”

The Congregation of the Resurrection is grateful to God for calling Fr. Sam to be a member of our community, and for all the wonderful ministry Fr. Sam has accomplished during his vocation.  Ad multos annos!

“Receiving the papal medal for church and community service from Pope Francis primarily honours the faith formation I received from my family and the Resurrectionists who have served in the Diocese of Hamilton since 1857."

Fr. Sam with Bishop Crosby, OMI and His Excellency Gerald Cardinal Lacroix, Archbishop of Quebec and Primate of Canada.
