Our vocations – whether to consecrated religious life, the priesthood, marriage, or the single life – may be likened to Jesus’ call to and at the Jordan. God calls, prompting a journey with a direction, a trajectory. We respond generously, humbly. God does the rest.
As we commemorate the Lord’s Baptism, we celebrate the dynamics of every Christian vocation. Prompted to depart his home in Galilee, Jesus heads to the Jordan and humbly accepts John’s baptism, even instructing him about its meaning. Once complete, the Father’s voice reveals the truth of who Jesus is: “my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
God is the origin and fulfillment of our vocations, encapsulating our humble responses. So, how is God prompting you? To where is God leading? To what is God calling you? How will you respond?
