It has been hot over the last few weeks. We are in the rainy season, but we have not had very much rain. Maybe this accounts for the heat. In any case, Christmas Day brought an unexpected problem. Our electricity broke. The electrical box that relays the electricity to our house burnt out. We were without electricity for three days. We have a generator, but it was not working very well. It would work for 30 minutes before cutting out. So that turned out to be a lost cause. Of course, we were not going to let this stop us from celebrating!
To celebrate Christmas, we went to the Morogoro Hotel for dinner. It was great!
They have a good menu with pizza, chicken, beef, fish, and pork, as well as many Indian dishes. Most of us ordered pork because we do not have many chances to have pork. It was a good community time together. We had many wonderful liturgical celebrations in addition to Christmas: the feast of St. Stephen, the first martyr, the feast of St. John, the feast of the Holy Innocents, and then, on Sunday, the feast of the Holy Family. This week we are looking forward to the feast of Mary, the Mother of God, and then, eventually Epiphany on January 5.
The seminarians will have a “free day” on Wednesday. This means that I also have a “free day” …peace and quiet in the house by myself. Speaking of which, we had a “free day” a month ago, but one seminarian was not allowed to participate. I thought that I could spend the day resting, only to find out that this seminarian decided to cut the grass for about three hours. I think he was sending me a message!
We have two nativity scenes: one in the dining room and the other in the chapel.
All of us in the Resurrection Formation House wish you a most blessed Christmas.

Epiphany of the Lord – January 5, 2025
Our challenge today, in this Feast, is to ask ourselves “What am I looking for?” “What do I hope to find?”
Ahead of Them, Went the Star
…there have been people if we stop and think about it, who in one way or another, knowingly or unknowingly, have been stars which guided us to find the same child who was born for us at Christmas.
Merry Morogoro Christmas – Part 1
Preparations for Christmas in Morogoro included a good cleaning, and building a stable for the nativity!
