National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30 recognizes the tragic legacy of residential schools, the missing children, the families left behind and the Survivors of these institutions.
We encourage everyone to recognize the Truth of our past and present relationships with the First Nations, Inuit and Metis peoples of Canada, and to work for Reconciliation between all peoples.
For those living in the Region of Waterloo, we encourage you to participate in one of these local events, and to read the recent article “Roman Catholic – Evangelical Dialogue Proposes Path to Building Relationships Towards Indigenous Reconciliation:
Join in a community walk to learn and reflect on the tragedies Indigenous peoples across Canada experienced from residential schools. The walk begins at 10:00 am at The Healing of the Seven Generations at 300 Frederick St., in Kitchener ends at Victoria Park’s clock tower where there will be drumming and speakers.
A new article from the Dialogue co-sponsored by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada explores how their respective communities have historically engaged with Indigenous believers—First Nations, Métis, and Inuit.
Anishnabeg Outreach will host a community event at the AO Spirit Garden from 10 a.m. to noon, parking at Woodland Christian High School on 1160 Spitzig Rd. The day includes tree planting, mulching, and a community barbecue, offering a space for reflection, connection, and renewal of relationships with the land.
We encourage everyone, in any walk of life, to tune in to the live broadcast at 3:00pm EDT of Remembering the Children: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 2025. You can watch it on Youtube below, or on your TV on CBC or APTN.
