The 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time- Sunday November 8, 2026 (Year A) features readings from Wisdom 6:12-16, Psalm 63, 1 Thessalonians 4: 13-18 and Matthew 25: 1-13 and centers on wisdom, hope, eternal life and the call to be ready for the Lord’s return. Wisdom is knowledge that helps us live well especially as we learn from our mistakes. St. Paul, in our second reading, assures us that belief in Christ’s death and resurrection is a dividing line between hope and despair. We don’t know the day or hour or how our death will happen but if we live with the Lord, this is our consolation and we will receive the gift of life eternal. From the Gospel of Matthew, we hear the story of the wise and the foolish virgins. The wise come prepared and the foolish are not prepared. Are we prepared or are we foolish?
The readings this week remind us to stay alert and live with faith. Following God in the single life, married life, religious life or priesthood means paying attention, doing concrete acts of mercy and love and being ready to meet the Lord at any moment.
