We do not earn or deserve God’s love; it is a gift given freely and unstintingly. When we feel most alone, most unworthy, most unlovable, the all compassionate heart of God remains open to us.
We are called to love God wholeheartedly, and to love thy “neighbour” as myself. God will do anything for us and never leave us. Do you have someone you do/would do anything for? Has someone gone above and beyond for you? God loves us without limits. How do you respond to this amazing gift by reflecting that love to others and to ourselves?
Jesus knew the events that would unfold in the following days. He recognized that the Pharisees and priests wanted to get rid of him. He asked God to “let the cup pass”. How often in your life do you want to say “Please send someone else” whether it is because of fear or lack of confidence? God’s answer was silence but Jesus trusted in Him. There are times in our lives when we feel like we are on a trapeze flying high in the air. Will the other person holding out their hands really catch us or will we fall to the net below? Will we succeed or will we fail? Faith shows us that God is reaching out to catch us but we have to have the trust in Him to “let go” first.
Life can be difficult with all its challenges. Jesus took up the challenge of dying for our sins so that we could live. He gave his love unconditionally. Jesus took on our imperfections and saw the beauty in us. Do we ever take the time to look past the perfections and see the “beauty” in others? Genuine love whether it comes from a spouse, a child, a parent or a friend empowers us, transforms us. God help me to share the gift of your love with all whom I encounter in my daily life, especially when it is most difficult.
We are God’s passion. We are all “somebody” in God’s eyes. It is the power of God’s love in us that allows us to be fully alive. Today we enter Holy week – Holy not because of suffering but Holy because of the great love that God has for us. Jesus, as we follow you through your death to the glory of the Resurrection, set our hearts ablaze with the desire to share your light with the world, in whatever ways we can. Let’s make this week HOLY!
