For many people, the multiplication of loaves and fishes is one of the most memorable acts in the Scriptures.  The great director, Cecil B. DeMille, would have had a ‘field day’ with this.  It is dramatic and sensational, yet begins in a mysterious and humble way.  The compassionate Jesus realized the need of the people who had followed Him, to hear His wise teachings.  Against all odds, He takes the few loaves and fishes, “gave thanks”, and distributed them to feed the multitude.  Today, that same compassionate Jesus, greatly desires to make something out of (what appears to be) nothing (or at least, so little).  Often we can think that what we have is so insignificant, useless, and has no purpose.  Jesus shows us that, with His grace, He can multiply that which we have in our heart, mind, and hands.  He may surprise us if we offer what we have, give thanks, and allow His grace to come to, and through, us.
