Via Lucis – Way of Light

The Seventh Step on the Way of Light

The Way of Light, modelled on the Stations (or Way) of the Cross, invites us to meet the Risen Christ. It leads us down the path of Easter spirituality, whose dominant themes are new life, living hope, peace of heart, witnessing to the Good News, and communion with the Risen One.

The Canadian Province of the Congregation of the Resurrection has produced our own Via Lucis, and this Easter Season we want to share excerpts of it with you.  Stay tuned each week for another Step on the Way of Light!

A week later his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.”

Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe.” Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!”

Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.”

John 20: 26 – 29

The Seventh Step on the Way of Light

The Risen Lord Strengthens Thomas’ Faith

Reflection:

When the Risen Lord appeared to the Apostles in the Upper Room, Thomas was not there, and Thomas did not believe their testimony that they had seen the Lord. Christ came again and addressed Thomas’ doubts with great forbearance, not judging him, but offering his hands and his side to Thomas. At the same time Jesus called his Apostles to deeper faith, promising blessings for all people who have not seen and yet have believed.

Most of us will never see the body of the Risen Lord in this life, so we need a deep and abiding faith to keep our lives aligned with God’s plan for us. So, when our faith falters, we know we can turn to God and ask him to strengthen us. The world “awaits the contribution of the faith and creativity of great numbers of young consecrated persons, that the world may be made more peaceful and able to welcome God and, in him, all his sons and daughters.” (Vita Consecrata, 106).

Prayer:

Risen Jesus, increase our faith. When we doubt, show us your mercy and love. Open us to your Word and to the faith preached by the Church, so that we may daily confess: My Lord and my God.

Through your holy Resurrection be glorified, Risen Lord!

Amen.
