Via Lucis – Way of Light

The Eighth Step on the Way of Light

The Way of Light, modelled on the Stations (or Way) of the Cross, invites us to meet the Risen Christ. It leads us down the path of Easter spirituality, whose dominant themes are new life, living hope, peace of heart, witnessing to the Good News, and communion with the Risen One.

The Canadian Province of the Congregation of the Resurrection has produced our own Via Lucis, and this Easter Season we want to share excerpts of it with you.  Stay tuned each week for another Step on the Way of Light!

[Jesus] said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Messiah is to suffer and to rise from the dead on the third day and that repentance and forgiveness of sins is to be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.

You are witnesses of these things.

Luke 24: 46 – 48

The Eighth Step on the Way of Light

The Risen Lord Calls for Witnesses to the Resurrection

Reflection:

At this meeting with the Apostles, the Risen Lord strengthened their faith by showing them his hands and feet, and then eating with them. After showing these proofs of his Resurrection to new life, Jesus presented the Apostles with a vision of their future mission, of which the most important manifestation would be personal testimony.

Today most people are more willing to listen to witnesses than to teachers; they are more likely to respond to people who are living out their faith, not telling others what they ought to believe. Today’s Apostles must be credible and convincing witnesses to the Risen Christ, sharing the mercy and grace God promises with all those whom they meet. We are called to “bear witness to these marvels not so much in words as by the eloquent language of a transfigured life, capable of amazing the world. (VC 20)

Prayer:

Risen Christ, enlighten our minds and animate our lives, that we may bear witness to your transforming love to all we meet. May we die to ourselves so that you may live and shine through us as a light for all people.

Through your holy Resurrection be glorified, Risen Lord!

Amen.
