Why does Jesus choose Imperfect Disciples?

A Resurrectionist Vocation Minute for June 1, Ascension of the Lord

Why does Jesus choose imperfect disciples?

Jesus commissions his disciples not because they are perfect, but because they have seen and received his mercy. Discernment for priesthood or religious life begins with being a witness to what God has done in your own life. Our mission stems from the encounter with the Risen Christ, not from our own abilities or skills.
Where in your life have you witnessed Christ’s mercy, and how might you be called to share that with others?

The vows are a visible sign to the people of God. They point to the possibility of living according to the counsels of Jesus. They are a prophetic witness of the primacy of God and higher values: the supernatural and the eternal as contrasted with the natural and temporal. Our faithfulness in living the vows will serve as an inspiration to all, encouraging them to live their own Christian vocation more fully.
