I felt a built guilty about Kevin’s visit. Usually, when people come to Tanzania, they want to climb Mount Kilimanjaro or go on a safari. However, I have many things that I am responsible for and did not have the time to do this with him. To his credit, Kevin said that he just wanted to spend time with me and the men in the Mission to see how we lived. God bless Kevin Donelson!
We were able to do some interesting things. I started a Sacraments class for 84 third-year seminarians at Jordan University College. Kevin came to six classes, a total of 18 hours of listening to me. It must have been a Lenten sacrifice for him.
Kevin was also able to make new friends with some of the local people. His smile and good nature won over many people.
One of the funniest things for me was that Kevin continued to speak English to our cooks, and they continued to speak Swahili to Kevin…neither seeming to understand anything that the other said but at the same time laughing and nodding in agreement about everything!
Some of the seminarians took Kevin to see some of the local sights.
Kevin was able to make friends with our pigs and chickens as well. The pigs, in particular, seemed fascinated with him!
There was also visits to the market and to the butcher shop.
Kevin made a lasting impression on our community, and I was so grateful for generosity and kindness when he was here.
