A while ago I asked the seminarians and postulants why they stopped playing volleyball during our recreation time. They told me that the net was totally broken and beyond repair. No one said anything and I did not know! But this was easily rectified.
What I did not know is that they planned a volleyball tournament in honor of my birthday. Of course, it was the age-old rivalry of seminarians (old guys—see above) vs. postulants (young guys—see below).
Profile on Postulants
Over the next issues, I thought I would do a short profile on each of the postulants so that you can get to know them. The postulants are under the care and direction of Br. Mosses. They are learning more about themselves and the Congregation of the Resurrection to see if they are suitable candidates for novitiate next year.
John Daudi Kizimba
John is 22 years old, with his birthday is January 9, 2004. He is the first-born of his mother and father, and he has 3 younger brothers and two younger sisters. His home is in Geita, which is near Mwanza. His home parish is St. Anthony of Padua.
John likes sports such as football and volleyball. One of his great gifts is music. He can read music and plays the keyboard during many of our liturgies. He is a great volleyball player!
When he was in his fourth year of secondary school, he approached his parish priest about his call to be a religious and a priest. His parish priest invited him to participate more in his parish, and when he was in his fifth year of secondary school, he contacted Fr. Duda, who invited him to stay in the novitiate for a week. The next year, Fr. Duda recommended him to come to Morogoro for a “Come and See” experience.
John is happy to learn more about the Congregation in this year of postulancy. He especially cherishes what he is learning about the Bible and prayer because he wants to be a good priest and religious who sets a good example for others. Amen!
Diof Jeremia Kibamba
Diof is 21 years old, born on January 28, 2005. He is the fourth born of his mother and father, and he has 2 brothers and 3 sisters. He is from Kigoma, near Tabora. His parish is St. Martin Mlumba, named after one of the Ugandan martyrs, who died with Charles Lwanga and companions.
In secondary school, Diof liked English, Kiswahili, Biology, Geography, and English Literature. He loves football (goalkeeper) and basketball.
In May 2025, Diof talked with Gervas Isaya (see earlier posting) about various religious communities. Gervas told him about the Resurrectionists and that he was coming to a “Come and See” in early June. Diof reached out and came to a “Come and See” at the end of June. (This fits with the old adage that seminarians attract seminarians!”)
While on the “Come and See,” Diof was impressed with the explanation of our charism by Vitalis Masika. During his postulancy, Diof notes that he is very happy, but recognizes that he must learn to deal with feelings of loneliness. When he told me this, I encourared him to keep dealing with this, as it is a question that EVERY person needs to deal with, whether in religious life, married life, or single life.
