Celebrations

In the midst of our work and prayer, we find time to celebrate the people and occasions that God has placed in our lives. These occasions are breaks from the routine of the ordinary and they help us to appreciate each other and all the wonderful things that God continues to do for us.

I appreciate these breaks in routine as much as our seminarians, especially when I am in the midst of grading 90 examinations for the students at Jordan University College!

Celebrations 1

Our biggest and most important celebration each week is the Sunday Eucharist. We make sure to have some good community time after Mass and breakfast.

We make sure that we remember to thank the people who cook for us—Maria and Pendo. We celebrated with them on “Women’s Day.”

Patrice presents gifts and gratitude to Pendo for all that she does for us in the kitchen and cleaning.

Edison presents gifts and gratitude to Maria for all her contributions to our lives in Morogoro.

We have 30 people living in the Formation House, with 10-12 people at each of the 3 rows of tables. I know that something will emerge from the kitchen, but I am not sure exactly what is about to happen! I don’t think Fr. Daniel knows either!

It turns out that it was a celebration for my 42nd anniversary of ordination on April 29, 1983. When you have that many years, you do not get candles, you get some kind of rocket!!!!

I received many gifts, including several new hats to protect my folic-challenged head.

I gave a short speech of about 2 hours and then we went to the seminarian recreation room to continue the celebration. It was quite thoughtful and wonderful.

A few weeks later, we celebrated Fr. Daniel’s 16th anniversary of ordination to priesthood on May 9, 2009.

The aspirants were able to get a beautiful present that they knew Fr. Daniel would like very much! It is presented by Hilary and Luis.

Of course, we ended the festive meal with ice cream…Fr. Jim’s favorite food!
