Some Developments in the Formation House

Fr. Jim Donohue.

Through the generosity of the Canadian Province, we were able to buy some new, much needed, appliances. Among the new items we bought are a washing machine, a large freezer, a large refrigerator, and a microwave.

We organized three teams to unpack and hook up the new appliances. Mario, Petro, Francis, and I were in charge of the new washing machine.

Valentino headed up another team to clean out a storeroom so that we could relocate the chickens once they have grown a bit more.

Joseph worked with Fr. Daniel to install the new refrigerator, freezer, and microwave.

We had to move some old cupboards to make room for the appliances. This entailed some good cleaning, carried out by Desdery, Fulgence, and Emmanuel.

The guys did a great job, even cleaning the hard-to-get-to places. Emmanuel, Fulgence and Desdery needed a break after all that cleaning! The cabinet really was VERY dirty!

Fr. Daniel had quite a crew helping him with the microwave. He has much patience!

Pendo and Maria are very happy with the new refrigerator and freezer. It will make their lives much easier. Both appliances are twice the size of the previous ones.

Now they have room to refrigerate many things that would often spoil early because there was no place to refrigerate them. By the way, the old refrigerator has a new life. Because it is not having to do all the “heavy work” it is functioning fine, and we can use it for keeping some other items cold. When Fr. Toby visited last year, Pendo and Maria told him that they would like a small machine to shred coconuts. I found one and it turned out that it was not very expensive…about $10. It has a suction cup bottom that keeps the small machine attached to the counter. There is a handle to turn, and the coconut shreds. Pendo and Maria were happy about everything, but they seemed happiest about this new purchase. Thanks, Fr. Toby for letting us know! Small things can make a big difference.
