Mission: Tanzania!

I ended the last blog with: “After the solemn Christmas blessing, we were off to two more outstations. With the baptism, we were late, and now we were in a real hurry!” Well, that was my first mistake of the day.

On Christmas Day we started by travelling to Tarani Outstation for Mass. There we baptized a two week old baby!

Christmas Eve finally arrived. I presided at the Mass and Fr. Andrzej preached. There were 70 babies and children to baptize!

Step by step, more trappings and lights are added until the final product, which is enjoyed immensely by all the parishioners throughout the Christmas season.

The day before the 3rd Sunday of Advent, people started to prepare the grounds for Christmas in Butiama. This is taken VERY seriously,

The “atmosphere” for Christmas is very different from what we see in the Northern Hemisphere.

I thought I would use this edition to give you an idea of “home” for us in Tungi, a small village just outside of Morogoro. Some of the photos were taken with his drone!

Fr. Jim’s return to Tanzania coincided with the return of the seminarians for their new school year of studies.

After many weeks away Fr. Jim finished his travels and returned to Tanzania. Follow his last few days away and his welcome back in Tanzania.

I was able to visit St. Bernadette Parish in Severn, Maryland on the last weekend of July. I ministered at this parish for about 30 years.

Sunday, July 2 marked the anniversary of the death of our Founder, Bogdan Janski, in Rome, Italy. We walked to the church from where his funeral Mass was celebrated.
