Mission: Tanzania!

After the Eucharist, we moved to celebrating outside with entertainment, food, and fellowship.

I left Buhemba on Thursday, April 27. Fr. Yohana would drive with me, and he would return to Buhemba on his own. We would pick up Lameck Juma in Butiama to drive him to Morogoro, arriving on Friday, April 28.

The gifts just kept coming! At one point I almost started to cry, but Fr. Maciej came over and put his hand on my shoulder and said: “Take it easy. There is so much more to come…people love you very much!”

It was a bit overwhelming to see such an outpouring of love and appreciation. Every person in the church came forward with a gift and a hug.

The celebration began with an event for the altar servers on Saturday, April 22 so that I could express my appreciation for their great service while I was in Buhemba.

We celebrated two birthdays in our residence in Buhemba. Br. Michael Mabuluja celebrated his 30th birthday on March 22nd and Fr. Maciej Braun celebrated his 46th birthday on May 14th.

Fr. Yohana and I attended the dedication of a new church, St. Raphael, in the Diocese of Musoma.

Lameck Juma is a brother candidate in our Tanzanian Mission. He is from Butiama Parish.

To drive to the next outstation in Kyamuko, I must drive past the main parish church (about 20 minutes) and then drive another 40 minutes. This road is terrible!

I was up the next morning at 5:00 a.m. to practice some of the prayers, the gospel, and my homily one last time.

Fr. Yohana and I each baptized about 25 people at the Easter Vigil Mass.
